About
Footsteps is a properly off-grid eco-lodge near Sanyang, ten minutes' walk from the sea. It runs entirely on solar power, composts its greywater and grows much of its own food in a permaculture garden out the back — and it holds carbon-neutral certification to back up the green credentials. Six simple mud-brick lodges cluster around a natural, chemical-free pool and a palm garden, and the cooking, home-grown or locally sourced, is genuinely excellent for somewhere this small and remote. With just six rooms it's intimate and quiet, popular with birdwatchers, couples and anyone wanting time well away from the resort strip. Don't come for luxury — come for solar-warm showers, good food, birdsong and a clear conscience. It's one of the most distinctive places to stay on the south coast, and books up well ahead in season.
