Mandina Lodges
Eco-lodges in Makasutu Forest

About
Mandina Lodges sit on the edge of a tidal creek deep inside the Makasutu Cultural Forest, about an hour from the coast — one of the most distinctive places to stay in The Gambia. The seven lodges, including two that float on the bonto creek itself, were designed with a deliberately light footprint and run on solar power. Rates are full-board, with guided forest walks and dugout canoe trips included, so your days fill naturally with birds, mangroves and the slow rhythm of the creek. There's a restaurant and bar, but no television or bustle: the point is to disconnect. With just seven lodges it stays intimate and quiet, a favourite of honeymooners, birdwatchers and anyone wanting a complete change of pace from the resort strip. For an immersive, low-impact night or two in the forest, it's about as special as Gambian accommodation gets.
