About
Sandele is a working yoga and wellness retreat at the far southern end of the Gambian coast, near the Senegalese border at Kartong. Six earth-built guest cottages sit among a permaculture garden, with solar-heated showers and a yoga shala right on the beach — a genuinely off-grid, low-impact place rather than a resort with a token green badge. You can come for a structured weekly retreat or simply on a bed-and-breakfast basis, using it as a peaceful base to walk the empty Kartong beach, watch birds at the nearby reserve or do nothing much at all. Facilities are deliberately simple: the shala, a restaurant, gardens, solar power and direct beach access. It suits yogis, solo travellers and couples after stillness and good food well away from the strip. For a restorative few days at the quiet end of The Gambia, there's nowhere quite like it.
