Sukuta Camping & Lodge

Sukuta Camping is the established stop for overlanders driving down through West Africa, a long-running, owner-managed campsite with secure pitches for trucks and 4x4s, simple lodge rooms and a swimming pool. Rates run from about US$4 to US$13 depending on whether you camp, take a budget room or upgrade — proper backpacker pricing — and there's a bar, hot showers, vehicle parking and WiFi on site. It's roughly fifteen minutes' drive inland from the beach hotels of Senegambia, so you trade the seafront for space, security and a sociable travellers' atmosphere where everyone swaps route notes around the bar. Beyond the overlanding crowd it suits budget travellers and anyone with their own vehicle who wants a safe, friendly base near the coast. It's not a resort and never tries to be — but for value, security and good company on the road, it's a Gambian institution.
