Hotel Mermoz takes its name and its theme from Jean Mermoz, the pioneering aviator who flew the Saint-Louis-to-Brazil mail route in the 1920s. As a comfortable three-star it's the most resort-like option around Saint-Louis, with air conditioning, free WiFi, a bar and direct beach access — well suited to families and couples who want sea and downtime alongside the city's history. It's quietest and at its best in the November-to-April high season; in the humid wet months rates roughly halve and some facilities wind down. The old town and the Pont Faidherbe are a short drive away when you want culture rather than beach.
