Pirogue safari in UNESCO biosphere

About
The Sine-Saloum Delta is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve where the Saloum and Sine rivers meet the Atlantic in a vast network of mangroves, sandbars and shell-mound islands. This full-day pirogue tour, around eight hours, takes you deep into it: through the mangrove channels to a bird sanctuary thick with pelicans, herons and fish eagles, on to a Serer fishing village, and out to a beach lunch on a deserted island. The price covers the pirogue and crew, lunch, your guide and park fees, in small groups of two to ten and run in English or French. The going is easy, and the slow glide of the boat through the bolongs is half the pleasure. Starting from Toubacouta in the southern delta, it's the single best way to experience one of West Africa's richest wetlands. Take binoculars, a hat and plenty of water.
